Welcome to ANTEM 2025
Dear Conference Participants,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee for the 2025 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM), we extend a hearty East Coast Canadian welcome. St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) is a fitting location for such an event, for the city itself, as well the surrounding areas, boast important historical significance in the realm of applied electromagnetics. For example, on December 12, 1901 Guglielmo Marconi recorded the first transatlantic radio signal, sent from Poldhu, England and received at the city landmark of what is now the Signal Hill National Park. This event as well as others related to electromagnetics technologies, specifically, the landing of the transatlantic communications cable at Hearts Content from Valentia Ireland and the completion of the Transatlantic submarine telephone cable from Oban Scotland to Clarenville, NL and then on to Sydney, Nova Scotia, are designated as IEEE Milestones. Then again, one of the first, if not the first, land-based receptions of the distress call from the ill-fated RMS Titanic in 1912 occurred within 150 km of the conference venue. The historical relevance of the location this year’s ANTEM is, thus, considerable.
Of course, in the decades that have passed since the events referenced above, the technologies under the ANTEM umbrella have matured in both breadth and depth. This maturation has greatly enhanced the overarching core purpose of the IEEE to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. As will be seen from the content of this year’s Technical Program, ANTEM 2025 continues this mandate.
In addition to the oral presentations that will be appreciated by the symposium participants, St. John’s and the surrounding area of the Avalon Peninsula offer a wide variety of superb musical, cultural and natural sights and sounds. Summertime brings the indoors to the outdoors, and those visiting can expect to find a warm reception as they explore the cultural fabric of the city and province or simply enjoy trekking the fabulous trails that ribbon their way along breathtaking coastlines.
Finally, we would like to extend our personal thanks to all that have worked so diligently to make ANTEM 2025 a success. The symposium participants are to be congratulated on providing an impressive array of research initiatives and interesting results. We recognize the official organizing committee for unselfishly spending countless hours seeking to make the symposium a success. Then, there are the behind-the-scenes volunteers, not directly responsible for the organization of the technical parts of the symposium, who have done yeoman service in reviewing and/or judging the submissions and who have otherwise helped in making arrangements for the various activities directly or indirectly necessary to keep the events running smoothly. We trust you will have made great memories and thank you, one and all.
Sincerely,
Dr. Weimin Huang
